“And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.”

“And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.” (Isaiah 4:6, NKJV)

The people of Israel were living under oppression from their enemies and facing significant spiritual difficulties. Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord spoke concerning those who sought Him and took a stand in His presence. To these, God promised the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, His protection, and, finally, His dwelling among them. The Lord Himself would provide a tabernacle.

The Tabernacle

The tabernacle represents the place where God dwells with man and makes Himself favorable to him. The apostle John expresses this glorious truth:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14, NKJV).

In the days of Israel, the tabernacle was a tent that moved according to the Lord’s direction, manifesting His presence in the midst of the people and guiding them toward the Promised Land.

In the same way, today we journey through this world under the direction, protection, and refreshment of the presence of Jesus—Emmanuel, God with us. We are being preserved for the great day of the Rapture, when we will be delivered from storms, rain, and afflictions, and will dwell forever with the Lord in Glory.

The Shade

The shade represents God’s protection against the heat of the day—symbolizing trials that intensify and press upon the servants of the Lord. As the psalmist declares:

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1, NKJV)

The Refuge

The refuge is the place of safety where the servant withdraws from adversity. It speaks of God’s provision to receive His people with complete security.

“He is my God, my refuge, and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” (Psalm 91:2, NKJV)
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1, NKJV)

The Shelter

The shelter is a secure place where one is hidden from danger amid constant attacks.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1, NKJV)
“Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8, NKJV)

The Rain and the Storm

Rain and storm symbolize attacks that bring destruction and danger. The Lord is the One who rebukes the storm in our lives:

“Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26b, NKJV)
“Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24, NKJV)

Conclusion

The prophecy of Isaiah is also a promise for the Church that seeks the Lord. As we begin this New Year, we rejoice in the assurance of this word: There will be a tabernacle of God with His Church.

  • The tabernacle is the best place to be.
  • It is where we experience the Lord’s care and protection.
  • It is where the direction toward eternity is revealed.
  • With the Lord present, we will enjoy blessings in every area of our lives.

The peace of the Lord Jesus.
